BOB
BobDear Sponsor,

My name is Bobby really, but as there is another Bobby on Sponsor, I have had to let them call me Bob for this purpose.I am around 13yrs old and NwESSR found me a lovely home just over 12 months ago. But due to no fault of my own and a sad turn of events for my owners, I found myself looking for another home a few months ago. Luckily for me, I have now got my feet under the table with another nice family/.

I have a large swelling on my leg caused by arthritis. But since being put on long term medication (yes that expensive one) by my vet, I am much more sprightly.I can get up the door step unaided, and dare I sayjump on the sofa ! My new family had an old dog before me, so they had already installed a disabled ramp from top to bottom of the back garden, so there is no area where I can't explore.

Although I have cataracts on both eyes, I still have some vision, but mainly I use my nose. But mum buys me balls with bells just in case, I love my toys. We live near the sea, so I get to go down to the bay for a splash and a trot on the beach, its grrrreat. The Vet says I have a strong heart, which is good news. Oh, and did I mention a girlfriend. She is a bit snobby with me, but I have had a makeover and I am sure she will succumb to my charms.

ZAC

Hi Zac here. I am six years old and I have Pancreatic Insufficiency Syndrome. In simple terms this means I don't have enough digestive enzymes to break down my food, and nutrients cannot be absorbed properly. My bodily tissues are not nourished and although I am eating regularly and well, my body is starving It costs around £50 a month for medication to keep me functioning, and I may have to be on it for the rest of my life. I have been lucky and NWESSR have stepped in and placed me on their sponsor scheme, for which I am very grateful. Please sponsor me,  Love and licks from Zac

ZacUpdate Jan 2011:-

Hello There Sponsor

What can I say, I really thought I was going to be left on the shelf, the only sponsor dog WITHOUT a sponsor ! I can't thank you enough for helping me out.

I am now 7 yrs old and since I was 2yrs I have had Pancreatic Insufficiency Syndrome. Meaning, I don't have enough digestive enzymes to break down my food, and nutrients cannot be absorbed properly. I was eating my food and literally starving to death. At that time it took 2 months for the vet to diagnose the problem, I was losing weight and my food wasgoing straight through me. Not much fun I can tell you.

I have to take medication twice daily in the form of granules sprinkled onto my food. This levelled out my weight loss until recently. The dose has now had to be doubled to steady the weight loss. It is an expensive drug, and now obviously costs twice as much. But it is working and that's the main thing.

Of course I am subject to prodding and poking at the Vet's every 6 months at least. At my last check up I was found not to be producing vitamin B12,and I am now on a course of injections 1 every month for up to 6 months initially, but could be longer depending on how well I do.

My family say that at the moment I am in better health than I have ever been. So as long as we control it that's ok. I am very grateful for all the kind people who have come forward to help me.

IZZY
Dear Sponsor, my name is Izzy and I am the new girl on the block. They say I am a delightful 6 year old Liver and White Springer. Until recently, I had been in the same home since I was a pup, but then I developed epilepsy. This is where the kind people at NWESSR stepped in to help me. Not only have they found me a brilliant new home, but they pay for my medication. I have to take no less than 10 tablets daily. But since I have been on these, I have had no fits, so it looks like my vet has it under control. I am very affectionate with my new carers, and I even have a couple of canine chums to live with. I am still a bit wary of strangers and new dogs, but it will all come in good time.

Dear Sponsor,

I have just celebrated my 8th birthday on the 9thDecember, a good time was had by all.I am pleased to report my Epilepsy is being controlled by medication, and it's a while now since I had a fit.I did have a bit of a cough in August, I got it checked out at the vet's and I am fine now.

I can be a little unpredictable with other dogs, but my favourite dog is our other family dog Cassie. We are good company for each other. When wesee Dad put on his coat and boots, I start barking with excitement until he puts my lead on and opens the front door. We have a a field and small wood close by, where Cassie and I enjoy chasing through the

undergrowth.  Dad has to be mindful of the lake though, because there is nothing I like better than swimming after ducks or swans!!!!

GHILLIE
Hi Everybody my name is Ghillie,

I am a five year old liver and white working Springer. Unfortunately I was attacked on a shoot and am now very suspicious of other dogs coming up behind me. I love lots of excerise and am used to running around most of the day so am not suitable to live with many families. I am a bit of a noisy boy and bark a lot so am not able to live in all homes as I may cause a problem with the neighbours. I do love humans though and am one of the most affectionate dogs you could ever meet. Thank you to NWESSR for having such patience with me.

Hello Sponsors, Ghillie here!

Here's my Summer update...

Everything is great with me. After my bad experiences with other dogs I am growing into a much more confident Springer who is comfortable with myself.

Although sometimes other dogs are a scary experience for me, I don't need to wear my muzzle when out walking in company anymore. Almost as if to compensate, for uncomfortable relationships with other dogs, I'm am now incredibility fond of people. I now play so much more in the house and can get great speed up when running up and down the stairs while trying to get as much attention as I possibility can !!!

I love my wlaks on the beach and ofton take my ball with me. We are inseparable and I won't even chase seagulls if my ball needs me to look after it. Thank you for sponsoring me. Without dedicate sponsors like you, small working springers like me wouldn't be given a second chance.

Latest Update 6th July 2010 Inc Picture
I have continued to dominate and take over the house.  I do not think that anyone is now in any doubt about who is actually in charge.  Let me illustrate. I like the doors open and Gary doesn't. He says its drafty. He shuts them, but oh how I have to smile when he has to give in to the cries of "Ghillie doesn't like it " and he walks past to open them. Another example is my dislike of football. When this comes on the tv I sit in front of the set blocking the view of Gary's stepfather.  It is a battle of wills as we stare at
each other. The end result is inevitable, Gary will either take me for a walk or I will get taken  into another room to play.  Either way I win. What also is beyond dispute is the fact that for all my little foibles I am the most affectionate dog you could ever wish to meet. Thank you to my sponsors for your continuing support, and anyone else who would like to sponsor me is more than welcome.

Update Jan2011:-
GhillieDear Sponsor

I think I have now finally took over the house.I do not think that anyone is now in any doubt about who is actually in charge.Let me illustrate, when I am in a room then I like the door open, not just ajar but wide open. They say its because I'm nosey. Dad will attempt to close the door, but after cries from the rest of the family telling him Ghillie does not like it, he has to get up and open the door nice and wide.

I also control the television. There are programmes I do not like and one of them is football. When Stepgrandad comes around I sit in front of the screen and stare at him, as he shuffles around in his chair trying to watch the match. In exasperation, Dad takes me out for a walk, its just a win win situation.

I may well have taken over the house, but none of the family could now imagine a home without me.Good-bye for now, it is time to take ME for a walk.

HARRY
Hello, I'm Harry. I used to have a home but I started to have trouble seeing where I was going. They took me to the Vet man and he said I had a problem with my retina and it would be very expensive to operate. We went home and I thought it would be ok but then we went out again and they let me out of the car and drove away and left me. I wandered around for a few days very lost and lonely then someone found me and brought me to NWESSR. They arranged for me to see a Specialist (it costs £204 and may cost more). I asked them if I could be a Sponsor Dog because I want to raise money for other unwanted Springers because its horrid when you are lost and afraid. I am off to my new home any day to join Charles and Meg (NWESSR Dogs). Sponsor me to read all about my adventures and my new friends.

Latest Tails
Hi all I'm having a lovely life, thanks to NWESSR. I am about 4 years old now. The specialist likes to see me every six months as my eyes are getting worse. The retina has now slipped down inside the eye - but I do have some sight. I regularly go for 15 mile hikes with my Dad, who has taught me how to negotiate the rocks. I have lots of stamina and Dad says that I am amazing! I have been made 'Honorary Bell Ringer' as I go with Dad to bell ringing practice at church and like to join in (and make a loud noise!)
Update July 6th 2010 (inc Picture)
Well I continue to be a very cheerful and active boy. If anything my taste for long walks
is getting 'worse'! - this picture was taken on one of my gentler strolls.
A recent visit to the specialist has confirmed that the pressure in my remaining eye has
increased slightly and so he wants to monitor the situation more closely - for the short
term anyway. I am now on a course of glaucoma eye drops. Obviously we're very concerned,
and hope these alleviate the situation.
In the meantime there are plans to do a lot of walks in Wharfedale and Nidderdale with a
possible break in the Lakes - there is a guest house which is my particular favourite - I
like to put my feet up at the end of a long walk and enjoy peace and quiet. Please
sponsor me.

Thank you very much for sponsoring me.

Taking a tripUpdate Jan 2011:-
Hello everyone

The news from the vet isn't good; The bad news is, I can't see anything at all now, but the good news is, at least I don't have to have my eye removed. At the moment I am on mild painkillers to ease irritation from slight ulceration on my cornea but it's clearing up. Please keep on sponsoring me as I still have to go to the Specialist.

A few months ago Dad and I went to the Lake District for a short break. The weather wasn't very good but I still managed a few fells (Ieven negotiated some rocky bits going up Hindsgarth!) and more importantly I helped Dad drink his beer. We have some particular favourite pubs and some of them let me sit inside. When we go to the Lake District, we stay in a lovely guest house outside Keswick, where I can sleep in the bedroom. Then at the end of September we went to North Devon where I am still be able to do my coastal walks. I try not to let my disability get in the way, and can still be found enjoying my long walks in the Yorkshire Dales .

Despite everything I'm a happy lad.

BOBBY
Hello My Name is Bobby,

I am a good boy who used to work for the police as a sniffer dog but I have retired due to health grounds. I have a skin disease with a funny name skin problem 'sarcoptic mange' which will hopefully be cleared up soon with some effective treatment. I also have a problem with my bowels so am to undergo blood tests and skin scrapes. Mr Vet thinks I may have a hernia which is causing the pain and is referring for a second opinion to another vet.

Please sponsor me-all of these visits to the vets are becoming very costly!

Update 6th July 2010 inc Picture
I am a great traveller and love to go on holiday. We stay on campsites, but not in a
tent, we have a motorhome, its brillliant. You never know where you will be when the door
opens. I particularly like the beach. I can play with my ball and splodge in the sea.
Although my mum and dad won't let me swim due to my ear infections, same goes for
scooting around in the long grass. However, I can still find plenty of mischief to get
into.
Please sponsor me.

Update Jan2011:-
BobbyDear Sponsor

As you know I have a heart murmur, but the good news is that the vet says at the moment I do not need any medication for it. I am on a special diet which really suits me, and I am allowed the odd treat. I don't like going to the vet's, they want to look in my ears and I won't let them. I have had ear trouble twice this year, and I have just finished a course of drops. Now my mum has to clean my ears weekly, we had a bit of a battle, but she is my mum so now I let her do this.

But that's enough of the problems. Did I tell you my favourite toy is a ball on a rope, I take it everywhere, on my walks over the fields, mum throws it for me, and I actually come back when she shouts me, even if I see a rabbit or a squirrel, now that is a good boy.

They say I am a bit of a thief, just because I keep pinching an oven glove, I take it into my bed and lick it. Then of course there is my springer sister Sophie, she has arthritis, but I still take her things when she isn't looking. But, I get around them all, one look from my big hazel eyes, that please cuddle me expression, wins them all over everytime.

TITCH
Titch came to NWESSR at the beginning of May 2007. He was just skin and bone, but he was the happiest little dog that we had ever seen. He couldn’t keep anything down not even water; anything that went in came back in bulk. He had no energy to walk or play, but somehow he still managed to find the strength to interact with the other dogs but only for a very short time. He wanted to be like the big dogs!

Titch weighed just under 4kg and he was nearly six months old! The vets were speechless. They suspected that Titch had a Porto systemic shunt and would need major surgery. The tests started here it was heartbreaking watching needles being put into Titch’s skin as there was no fat there, but he just kept wagging his tail. All the tests did point to the shunt and he was referred to a specialist vets. With the help of medication to try and stop him being sick we were told to try and get some weight on him so that the surgery could be performed.

Titch endured weeks of tests and procedures. More than once we were told he may not survive. But Titch did! He was started on steroids and within weeks the sickness had stopped and he was gaining weight. Titch will have to remain on the steroids for the rest of his life.

Titch has shown guts and determination and the strongest will to live, taking all the treatments in his stride and remaining happy, to everyone's amazement.

Without NWESSR and his wonderful foster carers, Titch would not be here now.
