FLO

My name is Flo and I was thrown out on the streets by my previous owners at a time when I needed them most. Thankfully NWESSR found me a new mum and dad, but  I really was in a sorry state. My extremely urine stained coat was smelly,  a result of an untreated urine infection and I had a very bad limp to boot. I felt better after a bath and a haircut. But that wasn't the end of my woes. The vet discovered 2 mammary tumors, another 2 large fatty lumps, deteriorating eyesight, and a very bad ear infection. I was also hard of hearing.  I was very introverted and only really interested in food and lying in bed. My new mum and dad were trying hard, but I just didn't have any interest in their toys or games.

2 months have gone by and I have come a very long way indeed.  My ear infection is totally gone, I have  been spayed, had all my lumps removed, antibiotics have cleared the urine infection (and the very strong ammonia smell), but I still have crystals in my urine so I am on a special diet to help dissolve them.  My  Vet Tim (who I love), also found polyps in my vagina and a saggy womb due to having had lots of litters. I am also on metacam for the arthritis in my front leg, but it's had very little effect as yet. I have been re-trained with hand signals and now know to sit, stay and down, my recall is proving a lot more tricky. But after my ear infection cleared I realised I can hear, now I need to understand what words mean, as in the past nobody really spoke to me. I am coming out of my shell and get excited at the mention of a ball game, I love water, eating cow poo and the sight of a duck sends me on a mission! I am so grateful to everyone for giving me a chance. Please sponsor me and help NWESSR to assist with my ongoing needs.
Love Flo

ZAC

Hi Zac here. You probably won't believe this, but I featured for the first time in the Winter newsletter, and since then not one single person has come forward and sponsored me, boo hoo. I have my problems, thats why I need your help, but I am lovely and I do have feelings. So I've changed my photo and hope you will change your mind. I am six years old  and I have Pancreatic Insufficiency Syndrome. In simple terms this means I don't have enough digestive enzymes to break down my food, and nutrients cannot be absorbed properly. My bodily tissues are not nourished and although I am eating regularly and well, my body is starving It costs around £50 a month for medication to keep me functioning, and I may have to be
on it for the rest of my life. I have been lucky and NWESSR have stepped in and placed me on their sponsor scheme, for which I am very grateful. Please sponsor me,  Love and licks from Zac

LIL

I am 12 years old and my name is Lil.  I arrived at my new home with my long time friend Jack in February this year.  My previous owners were trying to look after Grandad, who had a stroke, go to work and look after Jack and me, it was all too much. They wanted us to stay together and so we left our home at the seaside and went to live in the country, with a new mum and dad.  I loved it straight away. I get lots of cuddles and walks, and sniff all the new countryside smells.  Jack missed the seaside and our old home, and he just could not settle down.  He is younger than me and cried a lot for days, so Jack went back home.  I do miss him and the family sometimes, but I am sure I will see him soon.

My new Mum and Dad love me to bits and are really happy I wanted to stay.  I now get all the attention and all the cuddles. I love 'sniffing around' and nearly always go back to my mum and dad when they call, but as soon as I find a really good smell, I follow my nose, go deaf and forget everything else. My new family say I am a really good girl and a credit to my previous owners.  I have a few lumps and bumps and arthritis, but nice Mrs Vet says we need to keep an eye on a couple of the lumps, but it is nothing for an old girl to worry about. Nothing wrong with my wagging tail though!
Please sponsor me.
Love Lil

IZZY
Dear Sponsor, my name is Izzy and I am the new girl on the block. They say I am a delightful 6 year old Liver and White Springer. Until recently, I had been in the same home since I was a pup, but then I developed epilepsy. This is where the kind people at NWESSR stepped in to help me. Not only have they found me a brilliant new home, but they pay for my medication. I have to take no less than 10 tablets daily. But since I have been on these, I have had no fits, so it looks like my vet has it under control. I am very affectionate with my new carers, and I even have a couple of canine chums to live with. I am still a bit wary of strangers and new dogs, but it will all come in good time.

GHILLIE
Hi Everybody my name is Ghillie,

I am a five year old liver and white working Springer. Unfortunately I was attacked on a shoot and am now very suspicious of other dogs coming up behind me. I love lots of excerise and am used to running around most of the day so am not suitable to live with many families. I am a bit of a noisy boy and bark a lot so am not able to live in all homes as I may cause a problem with the neighbours. I do love humans though and am one of the most affectionate dogs you could ever meet. Thank you to NWESSR for having such patience with me.

Please sponsor me-woof Ghillie x

Hello Sponsors, Ghillie here!

Here's my Summer update...

Everything is great with me. After my bad experiences with other dogs I am growing into a much more confident Springer who is comfortable with myself.

Although sometimes other dogs are a scary experience for me, I don't need to wear my muzzle when out walking in company anymore. Almost as if to compensate, for uncomfortable relationships with other dogs, I'm am now incredibility fond of people. I now play so much more in the house and can get great speed up when running up and down the stairs while trying to get as much attention as I possibility can !!!

I love my wlaks on the beach and ofton take my ball with me. We are inseparable and I won't even chase seagulls if my ball needs me to look after it. Thank you for sponsoring me. Without dedicate sponsors like you, small working springers like me wouldn't be given a second chance.

Latest Update 6th July 2010 Inc Picture
I have continued to dominate and take over the house.  I do not think that anyone is now in any doubt about who is actually in charge.  Let me illustrate. I like the doors open and Gary doesn't. He says its drafty. He shuts them, but oh how I have to smile when he has to give in to the cries of "Ghillie doesn't like it " and he walks past to open them. Another example is my dislike of football. When this comes on the tv I sit in front of the set blocking the view of Gary's stepfather.  It is a battle of wills as we stare at
each other. The end result is inevitable, Gary will either take me for a walk or I will get taken  into another room to play.  Either way I win. What also is beyond dispute is the fact that for all my little foibles I am the most affectionate dog you could ever wish to meet. Thank you to my sponsors for your continuing support, and anyone else who would like to sponsor me is more than welcome.

ROSIE
Hello Everybody-it's Rosie here. As you can see the camera was not quick enough to capture the wagging of my tail! I am doing very well and receiving lots of care and attention. I have 2 new neighbours a Jack Russell and a Boxer who are very nice-I must go around and show them my new haircut! My eyes are still a problem but thanks to my sponsors I am not wanting for anything-thank you very much to you all!

Love and wags, Rosie

Latest Tails

Hello Sponsors, Rosie here!

We've not had much of a Summer this year have we, but, I have managed to enjoy some nice walks when the weather has allowed. Nothing very exciting to report, but, I am keeping very well for an old lady and I am enjoying my food and exercise, and my tail still never stops wagging!

Thank you very much for sponsoring me-it is very kind. Without generous sponsors, me and my Springer friends who need that extra bit of looking after would not be as lucky as we are today and many of us in dire straights would not have made it!

Thank you for sponsoring me.

HARRY
Hello, I'm Harry. I used to have a home but I started to have trouble seeing where I was going. They took me to the Vet man and he said I had a problem with my retina and it would be very expensive to operate. We went home and I thought it would be ok but then we went out again and they let me out of the car and drove away and left me. I wandered around for a few days very lost and lonely then someone found me and brought me to NWESSR. They arranged for me to see a Specialist (it costs £204 and may cost more). I asked them if I could be a Sponsor Dog because I want to raise money for other unwanted Springers because its horrid when you are lost and afraid. I am off to my new home any day to join Charles and Meg (NWESSR Dogs). Sponsor me to read all about my adventures and my new friends.

Hi all I'm having a lovely life, thanks to NWESSR. I am about 4 years old now. The specialist likes to see me every six months as my eyes are getting worse. The retina has now slipped down inside the eye - but I do have some sight. I regularly go for 15 mile hikes with my Dad, who has taught me how to negotiate the rocks. I have lots of stamina and Dad says that I am amazing! I have been made 'Honorary Bell Ringer' as I go with Dad to bell ringing practice at church and like to join in (and make a loud noise!)
Update July 6th 2010 (inc Picture)
Well I continue to be a very cheerful and active boy. If anything my taste for long walks
is getting 'worse'! - this picture was taken on one of my gentler strolls.
A recent visit to the specialist has confirmed that the pressure in my remaining eye has
increased slightly and so he wants to monitor the situation more closely - for the short
term anyway. I am now on a course of glaucoma eye drops. Obviously we're very concerned,
and hope these alleviate the situation.
In the meantime there are plans to do a lot of walks in Wharfedale and Nidderdale with a
possible break in the Lakes - there is a guest house which is my particular favourite - I
like to put my feet up at the end of a long walk and enjoy peace and quiet. Please
sponsor me.
Love  Harry
Thank you very much for sponsoring me.

BOBBY
Hello My Name is Bobby,

I am a good boy who used to work for the police as a sniffer dog but I have retired due to health grounds. I have a skin disease with a funny name skin problem 'sarcoptic mange' which will hopefully be cleared up soon with some effective treatment. I also have a problem with my bowels so am to undergo blood tests and skin scrapes. Mr Vet thinks I may have a hernia which is causing the pain and is referring for a second opinion to another vet.

Please sponsor me-all of these visits to the vets are becoming very costly!

Update 6th July 2010 inc Picture
I am a great traveller and love to go on holiday. We stay on campsites, but not in a
tent, we have a motorhome, its brillliant. You never know where you will be when the door
opens. I particularly like the beach. I can play with my ball and splodge in the sea.
Although my mum and dad won't let me swim due to my ear infections, same goes for
scooting around in the long grass. However, I can still find plenty of mischief to get
into.
Please sponsor me.
Love and Licks Bobby
