April 2010

Hi all,

Just to let you know the whirlwind Jerry (13mnths) who has joined our family is doing great - the first few days were exciting - he chewed his bed, tried to chew our cushions, kept jumping on the settee, the bed, and on our daughter a bit too.

It seemed a bit of a worry, but with some new boundaries, plenty of excercise and us all getting to know each other better, things have settled down nicely. He is a super dog extremely loving and good natured - no problem now in the house, yes he still tries to pull your arm off if he sees a bird, cat or rabbit - but we are working on that!!

Claire my wife often asks - when can we have another one? - maybe one day - when I retire maybe - but for now it is really great we are all happy together - especially Jerry. So for now I would like to say a big thank you for all at NWSSR for all the good work you do.

Regards
Alvon Stewart

Hi All,

Thought it was about time I gave you an update on Benson. He has been living with us for 7 months now and has brought so much fun and laughter to our house.

We took him on holiday to Pilling back in October and he had a wonderful time running in and out of the sea even though it was freezing. Unfortunately, he has a penchant for water, the muddier the better.
He has calmed down a lot and I wish you could see him now. The fur has grown back on his bald tummy and I actually took him to be groomed last week, for the first time. He came back looking younger and cheekier than ever.

He has an enormous appetite and whenever my cooker timer rings, he runs into the kitchen to see the food coming out of the oven! Even though he has already had his Arden Grange.

We have just completed a ten week obedience course at Rease Heath college. We did not put him in for the Bronze award because he has his own agenda! He kept yawning when we were asked to do anything more than twice and was so busy nosing around the room, to keep an eye on the other dogs, he didn't always co-operate.

Off lead he is fine but on-lead he still gets upset when he walks past other dogs. He is fine with humans but not confident with other dogs. Having said that, he has improved since we had him.

Everyone comments on how happy he is, when they see him covered in mud, stick in mouth and wagging his tail ten to the dozen. Thank you for helping us to find him.

He's definitely part of the family now.

Shanky Update from Selina (Shanky is now "Mr Jinks");

Shanky is enjoying his new life of luxury with three canine compaions of various ages. His favourite thing is to chase after Rufus when he gets the ball before him and to tell him off. For 10 years old he loves playing ball and is still extremely lively!

We are so very lucky to have the pleasure of his company although I'm not so sure the cats agree yet - that's a work in progress but he has improved a lot already, he only chases them one out of 5 times he sees them now instead of every time. Shanky is a grand old gent who is being thoroughly spoilt.
