How to Adopt

E-mail Print PDF

The first step in applying to adopt a NWESSR Springer is to contact us and tell us who you are and a little bit about yourself. In order to find the right Springer for you we need to know about:

  • your past dog experience
  • your family
  • any current pets
  • what you could offer a rescued Springer.

This can be achieved by completing the Online Vetting Form, or by telephone (see Contacts).

A NWESSR representative will need to talk to you on the telephone to discuss your application. At this stage you will be asked certain questions regarding your domestic situation so that successful applicants can adopt a Springer of the correct age, size, gender and temperament. Normally, NWESSR will not place Springers with families that have young children (under the age of 6), because there may be a risk of a painful misunderstanding, due to the natural boisterousness of the breed.

Following a successful first interview all prospective homes will be personally vetted by a NWESSR representative who will further advise you on proceeding with an adoption. This is to protect the members of your household and any Springer you welcome into your home. All of your queries will be answered and advice is on hand for any who request it.

A satisfactory outcome will result in a recommendation and in you viewing one or more suitable Springers in our care (not always right away). This may entail travelling some distance but, as you will no doubt agree, your choice will be more sensibly made if you can actually meet your prospective special friend and spend a little time getting to know him. It is important that liking is mutual so please do not feel obliged to take any Springer unless you are 100% comfortable with your choice.

Please remember that there will be a period of adjustment and it may take a little while for a dog to accept a new family and strange surroundings before he can feel comfortable with his new life. With a little time and patience a Springer will happily settle down to your routine.

Many dogs who come to us require veterinary treatment. A donation from an adoptive owner will help NWESSR offset the cost of medication and keep so that we can continue to rescue other unfortunate Springers.

Contact us now because that special friend might just be waiting for you!

Newsflash

Thanks to everyone who entered the Calendar Competition which closed on 30th June, all your Images have now been downloaded! There are some fantastic images of dogs with Snow on their faces, sitting in front of Castles, on Trees, Springing about in fields, rivers on beaches and admiring the views on tops of mountains. There was even a seafaring doggie walking about a yacht - in fact I think we have been sent just about every type of springy image we could possibly get, so thanks v much because the winners will make a great calendar.

Judging starts on Sunday 25th July and we expect to have some winning pics announced by mid-august.
